A swimming pool can increase the value of your home if it's placed in the right location on your property. But if you decide to install an indoor pool above or near the basement, you could be making a bad mistake.
Unlike an outdoor swimming pool, an indoor pool can leak water into the foundation of your home easily. The walls and flooring of the home can soak up the water, as well as allow it to spread to other areas of the house, including the basement.
Once water travels into the basement, it may eventually flood. Flooding water can destroy the flooring of the basement, walls and soil beneath the home. If you don't remove the water right away, mold, mildew and other unsavory damages can occur in the basement.
You can install a swimming pool in the back yard to increase your property's value. In addition, you drain and clean the pool easier than you would if it was installed inside the house.
Construct a Treehouse on the Property
Building a treehouse on the property for your children may be a good idea now, but it may not help you sell your home later. When you sell your home, a variety of buyers may show up to look at it. Some of these potential buyers may not have kids or plan to have them in the future.
Seeing a large structure, such as a treehouse, in the yard may keep these buyers from bidding on your home. The buyers may consider the removal of the treehouse a big expense they don't want to make. Additionally, the treehouse could damage the tree, which will require extensive treatment and care to restore back to health.
You may choose to place a temporary tree house on the property for your children and remove it before you place the home up for sale.
